Obverse description Printed in brown on cream paper with a wavy-line guilloche underprint covering the entire surface. The upper portion carries the title "Gutschein" in ornate Gothic script, flanked at upper left by a small vignette of a Gothic church facade within a rectangular frame, and at upper right by the denomination "20 Heller" in a decorative cartouche. A large central vignette presents a detailed line-engraved townscape of Eggenburg's main square, with multi-storey burgher houses, a Gothic church tower, and period architectural detail rendered in fine letterpress. Three facsimile signature lines appear at the base, captioned "Der Vizebürgermeister", "Der Bürgermeister", and "Der Gemeinderat".

Reverse description Printed in brown on plain cream paper within a rectangular dashed border. Two lines of Gothic verse occupy the upper field. The centre is dominated by a circular vignette reproducing the historic 15th-century municipal seal of Eggenburg, showing a fortified town gate with towers; the caption beneath reads "Stadtwappen aus dem 15. Jahrhundert". Flanking the seal on both sides, set in two columns, is the redemption text in Gothic script. A counterfeiting warning appears below the border, and the printer's imprint is set in small roman type at the foot.

Eggenburg's municipal notgeld was printed locally by the town's own press association, the Pressevereinsdruckerei — an arrangement that was common among smaller Austrian communities scrambling to plug the coin shortage that persisted well after the armistice. The 20 Heller denomination sits in the middle of Eggenburg's 1920 notgeld series, which was issued under the authority of the Stadtgemeinde rather than any banking institution.

By 1920, Austrian notgeld had become something of a collector phenomenon, and many municipalities printed more than circulation strictly required.
