Auberg is a small rural municipality in the Mühlviertel district of Upper Austria, and this note is a product of the chaotic Notgeld wave that swept Austrian municipalities from 1919 onward, as the collapsed Habsburg monetary system left communities without enough small-denomination coinage to conduct basic commerce. F. Kling operated out of Urfahr — the town directly across the Danube from Linz, later absorbed into Linz in 1919 — making this a hyper-local production in every sense.
The Oberthur designer credit is worth flagging: it almost certainly refers to borrowed or licensed artwork rather than a commission specific to Auberg.
