The eagle bears the composite quartered Austrian coat of arms on its breast, and holds a sword and scepter in its talons with an orb below. The circumferential legend 15 1/2 EINE FEINE VEREINS MARK runs around the upper and lateral fields within a beaded border, referencing the Vereinsmünze standard fine gold weight. The overall design is rendered in the high-relief heraldic tradition of mid-nineteenth-century Austrian coinage. |
