Reverse description The imperial Austrian double-headed eagle displayed, surmounted by the Habsburg imperial crown, with wings spread and elaborately detailed feathering. The eagle bears the composite quartered Austrian coat of arms on its breast, and holds a sword and scepter in its talons with an orb below. The circumferential legend 15 1/2 EINE FEINE VEREINS MARK runs around the upper and lateral fields within a beaded border, referencing the Vereinsmünze standard fine gold weight. The overall design is rendered in the high-relief heraldic tradition of mid-nineteenth-century Austrian coinage.
