Paraguay's 1966 pattern coinage was produced during the Stroessner dictatorship, a period when the government was actively courting foreign investment and issuing prestige pieces — many never intended for circulation — to project an image of monetary stability. This 20 Guaraníes gold pattern almost certainly falls into that category.
