Obverse description Bare-headed right-facing effigy of King Leopold I, rendered in high relief with finely engraved portrait detail. The legend LEOPOLD PREMIER ROI DES BELGES curves along the upper periphery in Latin script. The engraver's signature L.WIENER appears in small capitals below the truncation of the neck. A fine toothed border frames the entire obverse field.

Reverse description The denomination 20 FRANCS is displayed in two lines at the centre of the field, with the date 1865 immediately below, all enclosed within a wreath of crossed oak branches bearing acorn clusters and deeply veined lobed leaves. The wreath is tied at the base with crossed stems and opens at the top. A continuous toothed border encircles the reverse.
