The Republic of the Congo has no historical or cultural connection to Tenochtitlan, the Aztec capital destroyed by Cortés in 1521 — this is a frankly commercial issue produced for the collector market, a practice that became endemic among smaller African nations with CFA franc denominations in the 2010s. The nominal face value is purely ceremonial; these pieces were never intended to circulate.
