Obverse description At center, a right-facing draped bust of President Joseph Kasa-Vubu, the first president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The state name REPUBLIQUE DEMOCRATIQUE DU CONGO curves along the upper periphery, while the legend JUSTICE PAIX ET TRAVAIL curves along the lower periphery, both separated by star ornaments. The legend PRESIDENT KASA-VUBU arcs immediately below the state name, framing the portrait above. A beaded border runs around the outer edge of the coin.
