Obverse description The quartered arms of Geneva displayed within a beaded inner circle, the shield divided vertically and showing at left a displayed eagle and at right a key with ornate bow, surmounted by a crown. Above the shield, a radiant sun bearing the Christogram IHS. The peripheral legend · POST · TENE- -BRAS · LUX · IHS encircles the design, separated by a dot at bottom, with a small cartouche mint mark at the base of the field. The composition is rendered in bold relief against a flat field, in the heraldic tradition of Swiss cantonal coinage.
