| Obverse description | Central field bears the large Chinese characters 光緒元寶 (Guangxu Yuanbao) arranged prominently in two columns. An inner beaded circle frames the central legend, with the denomination inscription 庫平一錢四分四釐 (Kuping 1 Mace 4.4 Candareens) along the lower arc and the provincial inscription 湖北省造 (Made in Hupeh Province) along the upper arc within the outer beaded border. Manchu script equivalents of the central legend appear between the two beaded circles at the sides, following the standard format established for Guangxu-era provincial coinage. |
