| Obverse description | Central field features four large Chinese ideograms arranged in a cruciform pattern, reading top to bottom and right to left, flanked by Manchu script characters at centre. The entire central device is encircled by a ring of additional Chinese ideograms forming the peripheral legend, which records the provincial authority, reign year, and denomination in traditional weight units. The legend reads in full: Anhwei Province, Year 27 of Guangxu, Yuanbao, worth 1 Mace and 4.4 Candareens. The design is executed in a formal, rectilinear style characteristic of late Qing provincial coinage, with a beaded inner border and a plain raised rim. |
