Reverse description The reverse presents a highly detailed three-dimensional effigy of a young pig shown in frontal bust view, emerging boldly from a circular ring at the center of the design. The Chinese character for pig (猪) appears in the field to the right of the animal. The inner ring is decorated with all twelve Chinese zodiac animals in low relief, while the outer border features floral and foliate motifs against a deeply mirrored proof field. The legend '2019 ANNÉE DU COCHON' is inscribed along the lower portion of the coin.

Additional information

The Monnaie de Paris has issued lunar calendar pieces targeting the Chinese diaspora market and European collectors since the early 2000s, and the Pig — last appearing in the cycle in 2007 — completes the twelve-year rotation here. France's sizable Chinese-heritage community, concentrated heavily around the 13th arrondissement in Paris, gives these issues a domestic retail audience most other European mints cannot claim.
