The Pont Neuf, completed in 1607, was the first Parisian bridge built without houses on it — a deliberate departure from medieval urban practice — and the Monnaie de Paris marked its 400th anniversary with this issue. The mint itself sits on the Left Bank less than 400 meters from the bridge, making the subject something of a neighborly choice.
