Obverse description The coat of arms of Martinique occupies the central field, depicting a quartered shield bearing four fer-de-lance serpents, one in each quarter. The territorial name MARTINIQUE is inscribed in a bold, stylized legend across the upper portion of the field. To the right of the shield, the French Republican motto 'liberté égalité fraternité' is rendered in cursive lettering, with the date 2004 below and the 'RF' (République Française) monogram beneath. The word 'ESSAI' appears in the lower exergue, denoting pattern or trial status.
