The Croisière Jaune — the Yellow Cruise — was the 1931–32 Citroën Central Asia Expedition, a mechanized crossing from Beirut to Beijing using half-track vehicles developed from Adolphe Kégresse's suspension system. The expedition split into two groups at the Himalayas; the Chinese leg was briefly detained by warlord forces in Xinjiang, and the two columns only reunited in Aksu after weeks of forced delay.
This 2004 issue is one in a series the Monnaie de Paris produced commemorating the expedition's stages. The .920 gold alloy — rather than the more common .999 or .900 — is characteristic of French commemorative gold output from this period.
