| Obverse description | The obverse depicts an elaborate Baroque architectural scene featuring the grand staircase of a palatial interior, flanked by monumental sculptural figures in the Baroque style. To the left, a framed niche contains a classical nude statue in relief, while a large muscular atlas figure occupies the right foreground, supporting the architectural elements above. A decorative cartouche with foliate ornamentation occupies the centre of the composition at the base of the staircase. The legend REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH curves along the left rim, with the date 2002 inscribed at lower left and the denomination 20 EURO appearing along the lower rim. |
