Issued to mark the centenary of Jules Verne's death, this piece belongs to Monnaie de Paris's ambitious multi-year program honoring the author — one of the few commemorative series to sustain collector interest across successive annual releases. Verne died in Amiens in March 1905, having published over sixty novels under the collective title Voyages Extraordinaires.
At 155.5 grams of .950 silver, the coin required Monnaie de Paris's large-format striking presses — the same infrastructure used for their proof medals rather than standard circulation production.
