Die Sendung mit der Maus debuted on WDR in March 1971, making 2021 its 50th anniversary — the direct occasion for this issue. The program is one of the longest-running children's broadcasts in television history and has aired without interruption across five decades, which gave the Finance Ministry an unusually defensible cultural argument for a commemorative silver.
Struck at all five German federal mints, each contributing a different mint mark (A, D, F, G, J), giving collectors a natural five-coin set from a single year.
