Obverse description The obverse presents an artistically stylised rendering of the three central figures from the celebrated high altarpiece of St. James's Church in Levoča, depicted in an unfinished state as though emerging from their original wooden blocks — a compositional device evoking the creative process of Master Paul. The right-hand block bears the coat of arms of the Slovak Republic, while the central block carries the denomination '20 EURO' and the year of issue '2017' inscribed on separate lines. The left-hand block is inscribed with '1517', the year the altarpiece was completed, accompanied by the signature mark of Master Paul. Below the figures, the Kremnica Mint mark 'MK' and the designer's stylised initials 'PK' (for Pavel Károly) appear in the field. The legend 'SLOVENSKO' runs along the lower edge of the central field.
