Obverse description The three towers of Mount Titano, the iconic landmark of the Republic of San Marino, are depicted in the central field. Surrounding the central motif is a legend rendered in four languages (Spanish, English, French, and German) reading PRUEBA TRIAL ESSAI PROBE, followed by the date 2005 and the initial G. The inscription REPUBBLICA DI SAN MARINO appears along the upper periphery, identifying the issuing state.

Additional information

San Marino's euro coinage is struck under a monetary agreement with the European Union — the republic has no central bank and no independent monetary policy, yet retains the right to issue its own-design coins as a legacy arrangement formalized ahead of the eurozone's cash launch. Annual mintages for San Marino's euro denominations are strictly capped, and 2005 production was limited enough that specimens were largely absorbed by collectors rather than circulation.
