| Obverse description | Facing bust of Pope Benedict XVI (Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger), depicted in three-quarter view wearing papal vestments including the rochet and pectoral cross, engraved in a finely detailed, realist style by Daniela Longo and Maria Angela Cassol. The legend CITTÀ DEL VATICANO arcs along the left and lower periphery, with the mint year and the Rome mint mark R positioned to the right of the effigy. Twelve five-pointed stars, representing the European Union, are arranged around the inner border of the coin's scalloped edge.
