Belgium struck two distinct Albert II effigy types for its euro coinage, with this first map version — predating the EU's 2007 enlargement that prompted a continent-wide reverse redesign — produced under contract at the Monnaie de Paris rather than the Royal Mint of Belgium. French-struck Belgian coins from this period are identified by the mint mark of the Pessac facility and carry the cornucopia privy mark of the sitting Monnaie de Paris director.
