Obverse description The obverse features a stylized silhouette map of Estonia rendered in relief within the central field, evoking the nation's geographic outline. The date of issue appears in the upper portion of the field, above the map, while the legend EESTI — the Estonian name for the country — is inscribed below. Twelve five-pointed stars encircle the composition along the rim, symbolizing membership in the European Union. The design was engraved by L. Lõhmus.

Additional information

Estonia joined the Eurozone on January 1, 2011, making it the first former Soviet republic to adopt the euro. The switchover was completed in just two weeks, with kroon notes and coins demonetized by mid-January — a timeline that left virtually no overlap between the two currencies in circulation.
