Additional information

Malta joined the eurozone on 1 January 2008 after a referendum in 2003 delivered a narrow 53.6% majority in favor of EU accession — a vote contested enough that euro adoption remained politically contentious for years afterward. Specimen strikes were produced for collector sets distributed by the Central Bank of Malta at the point of changeover, distinct from the circulation issue in their finish and handling history.
