Among the signatories on this print, Vítor Constâncio — then a Banco de Portugal administrator — would later serve as Governor of the Banco de Portugal from 1985 to 1986 and again from 2000 to 2010, before becoming Vice-President of the European Central Bank. His early signature appearances on 1970s escudo notes are a minor footnote to that longer career.

The nine-print run of this 20 Escudos type stretched across several years of post-revolutionary monetary adjustment following the April 1974 coup. By 1978, inflation had badly eroded the note's purchasing power — 20 escudos was already marginal in daily use.
