Obverse description Central field displays the arms of Portuguese Mozambique: a quartered shield bearing the five quinas of Portugal in the dexter half and a radiating star or sunburst device with a palm frond in the sinister half, below which three wavy lines represent the sea. The shield is set within a raised inner circle. The colonial territory name 'MOÇAMBIQUE' curves along the upper legend within a beaded border, while the denomination '20$00' appears in large numerals along the lower legend, flanked by ornamental floral stops. The engraver's signature 'M. NORTE' appears to the lower right of the shield.
