Obverse description The crowned arms of Bern — a diagonally striped shield charged with a walking bear — displayed within an elaborate baroque cartouche, supported on the left by a standing bear and on the right by a rampant lion, both serving as heraldic supporters. A floral and foliate spray decorates the lower field. The circular legend reads MONETA REIPUBLICAE BERNENSIS, separated by rosette stops, with a mint-master's initial D appearing below the shield in the exergue.
