| Obverse description | The obverse displays the national arms of the Republic of Liberia at centre, featuring a sailing ship approaching shore, a palm tree, and a rising sun, with a dove in flight above and a plough and shovel in the lower field. A scrolled banner across the shield bears the national motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE, and a second banner below the shield reads REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA. The date 1998 is divided to either side of the arms.
