| Obverse description | The national emblem of Singapore is depicted centrally, surrounded by the country name inscribed in four official languages — English, Malay, Tamil, and Chinese — arranged around the periphery of the coin. The date of issue appears beneath the emblem in the lower field. The overall design follows the standard heraldic format adopted for Singaporean coinage. |

Singapore's lunar series coins are produced by the Singapore Mint as collector issues rather than circulating currency — the republic has issued no circulating commemoratives of this type. The 2017 Rooster completes the second full 12-year lunar cycle in the series, a milestone the Mint has marked with progressively higher mintage limits than the inaugural cycle begun in 1993.
