Obverse description The obverse displays the national coat of arms of Liberia centrally within the field, depicting a sailing ship at sea with a palm tree and a rising sun on a quartered shield, flanked by a dove above and a cannon with plow below. A ribbon across the shield bears the motto THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE. The legend REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA arcs along the upper periphery, while the denomination 20 DOLLARS is inscribed along the lower border. The date 2000 appears in two parts flanking the central arms at mid-field, and a second REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA inscription appears within a scroll at the base of the arms.
