| Obverse description | A seated mermaid, flower-wreathed and depicted in three-quarter view, occupies the central field, her scaled tail curling amid stylized ocean waves. She extends her right arm to display a perched cockatoo. The coin is framed by an inner beaded border, with the arc legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU 1998 running along the upper portion of the field. The denomination 20$ appears in the lower exergual area beneath the mermaid figure. The design is executed in high relief in a refined classical style. |
