Obverse description At right, an intaglio vignette of the mythological dragon-headed tortoise (龍龜) is rendered against a multicolour guilloche underprint of pink and orange wave patterns. The denomination numeral '20' appears at the far left margin alongside a circular decorative medallion with scrollwork, while the centre carries the bank's promise-to-pay text in English and Chinese characters (香港渣打銀行), with two manuscript signatures below. A date and place of issue appear at lower centre.

Reverse description At left, an intaglio vignette of the Standard Chartered Bank headquarters building in Hong Kong is accompanied by the denomination numeral '20' below and Chinese characters 貳拾圓 to the upper left. A large Bauhinia flower vignette is set within a concentric guilloche rosette at centre, with the bank name in English on a dark panel beneath. A colourful circular decorative medallion and the denomination repeated in multicolour Chinese characters appear at the right margin.
