| Obverse description | The central field features the Coat of Arms of the Republic of Palau set within a recessed circular medallion, surrounded by the legend REPUBLIC OF PALAU and eight stars, with the denomination 20$ and date 2019 inscribed below. The arms depict a traditional Palauan scene with a fisherman in a canoe above a shield bearing a figure of Neptune holding a trident alongside a mermaid, with the motto RAINBOW'S END in the exergue of the shield. The broad outer rim is dramatically sculpted in high relief with the coiling body of a large serpent rendered in fine detail, its scales deeply struck, framing both sides of the coin. The title PANDORA'S BOX is inscribed in bold raised lettering arching across the upper portion of the rim, partially overlapping the serpent motif. The entire design is struck in antique finish, lending the composition a dark, atmospheric patina that accentuates the sculptural relief. |
