Reverse description The reverse depicts a dramatic battle scene commemorating the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele (1917), showing Canadian soldiers advancing through the war-ravaged, waterlogged terrain of Flanders in high relief against a darkened field with selective colour treatment evoking the mud-soaked landscape. The years '1917' and '2017' appear in cartouches flanking the central composition. At the lower centre, a selectively gold-plated mourning angel or figure of remembrance is set within a shield-shaped reserve. The bilingual legends 'THE BATTLE OF PASSCHENDAELE' and 'LA BATAILLE DE PASSCHENDAELE' arc along the left and right margins respectively, with 'CANADA' inscribed along the upper border.
