Obverse description At left, a large intaglio lion's head vignette in blue tones anchors the composition — a classical HSBC motif — set against a fine guilloche underprint in pale blue and green. The denomination numeral '20' appears in large multicolour figures at upper left, while the bank's full bilingual title runs across a central teal band. The right portion carries the promise-to-pay text, denomination in Chinese characters, the executive director's signature, issue date, and HSBC logotype over an intricate geometric latticework underprint.

Reverse description The reverse carries a detailed intaglio panorama of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour skyline, rendered in fine blue line-work across the centre of the note. To the right, the Peak Tram and its upper terminal are drawn in precise architectural detail, accompanied by a sprig of Bauhinia blakeana, Hong Kong's floral emblem. The bilingual bank title appears in a teal band at upper left alongside the Chinese denomination '貳拾', with the HSBC logotype and multicolour latticework panel occupying the lower left and the numeral '20' at lower right.
