Liberia's late-1990s and early-2000s commemorative program was one of the most prolific — and commercially cynical — in modern numismatic history, contracting out designs to foreign minting houses and flooding the market with themed silver issues aimed squarely at collector novelty rather than any domestic purpose. HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar in 1805, has appeared on the coinage of at least a dozen unrelated nations for this reason alone.
Victory still exists — she is permanently commissioned in Portsmouth Harbour and remains the oldest naval vessel on active service in the world.
