Obverse description The Liberian national coat of arms is centrally depicted in high relief against a mirror-polished field, featuring a sailing ship, a palm tree, and a dove above a rising sun, with a scroll below bearing the national motto. The legend 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' arcs along the upper periphery, and a secondary legend 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' curves across a ribbon within the shield. The date '2003' is divided on either side of the arms in the lower field. A repeated 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA' inscription appears along the lower rim, and the entire design is bordered by a beaded inner circle with a reeded outer edge.

Additional information

Frances Folsom Cleveland is the only First Lady to have married a sitting U.S. president — Grover Cleveland wed her at the White House in June 1886, when she was 21 and he was 49. She later became the first former First Lady to remarry after her husband's death. Liberia issued commemorative silver rounds of this type extensively in the early 2000s as a revenue-generating program rather than for domestic circulation, with the coins produced under contract and sold directly to the international collector market.
