Obverse description The central field displays the full Coat of Arms of Liberia, featuring a three-masted sailing ship on the sea, a rising sun, and a palm tree on the shore, with a plow and a dove in the exergue area, all enclosed within a shield surmounted by a scroll bearing the national motto. The date 2001 is divided by the shield, with '20' to the left and '01' to the right. An outer legend along the upper rim reads 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA', while a secondary legend at the base within a ribbon scroll repeats 'REPUBLIC OF LIBERIA'. The motto ribbon 'THE LOVE OF LIBERTY BROUGHT US HERE' arcs across the upper portion of the shield. The entire design is set against a milled border of fine denticles.

Additional information

Liberia's commemorative coinage of the late 1990s and early 2000s was produced almost entirely for the export collector market, with virtually no domestic circulation. The pieces were struck under licensing arrangements by European minting houses — primarily in Germany — and sold through international distributors with no meaningful connection to Liberian monetary policy or public use.

KM#721 is one of hundreds of issues from this program. The Apollo 11 mission it commemorates occurred 32 years before this coin's striking date.
