| Additional information |
The USS Constitution entered service in 1797 and famously earned her nickname "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812, when British shot appeared to bounce off her oak hull. She remains the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat, berthed in Boston. This BVI issue appeared as part of the wave of commemorative silver struck for the collector market around the turn of the millennium — a period when Caribbean territories flooded the market with themed pieces under royal portrait authority, most seeing no domestic circulation whatsoever.
