Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing fine silver portrait series, this issue was released the same year Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee was marked across the Commonwealth — her 60th year on the throne. The RCM used the occasion to push several portrait-focused releases into the market simultaneously, which dampened secondary market premiums almost immediately after issue.
