| Obverse description | The obverse features the fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Dora de Pédery-Hunt, depicting the Queen in right-facing profile wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace with drop earrings. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a deeply mirrored proof field, characteristic of Royal Canadian Mint craftsmanship. The legend ELIZABETH II is inscribed along the left rim and D·G·REGINA along the right rim, separated by two raised dots at the base. The date 2000 appears in the lower exergue below the portrait. |

The Bluenose II, launched in 1963 as a replica of the original 1921 schooner, was built at the same Lunenburg, Nova Scotia yard — Smith and Rhuland — that constructed her predecessor. The original Bluenose was sold to a West Indies trading company in 1942 and wrecked on a Haitian reef the following year, never having been redeemed by the Canadian government despite repeated public campaigns to purchase her back.
This 2000 issue belongs to a long-running RCM transportation series that drew consistent collector demand through the 1990s. The Bluenose subject had already appeared on the dime since 1937.
