| Reverse description | The reverse displays the full-color armorial shield of Prince Edward Island, featuring a golden lion passant on a red chief above three oak trees on a green ground in the lower portion of the shield, all rendered in vibrant selective coloring. The shield is framed by a decorative surround of engraved maple leaves, characteristic of the Canadian Confederation puzzle coin series. A ribbon scroll below the shield bears the date 1873, commemorating the year Prince Edward Island joined Confederation. The entire design is struck on a puzzle-piece-shaped planchet, intended to interlock with other coins in the series. |
