Obverse description Central device features the coat of arms of Niue, a quartered shield bearing the Southern Cross stars in the first quarter, three sailing ships in the second and third quarters, a shell in the fourth quarter, and crossed hammer and pick in the lower right quarter, all surmounted by a St Edward's Crown. The shield is flanked by two sprigs of silver fern rendered in high relief. The legend NIUE appears along the upper left rim and the date 1993 along the upper right rim in serif characters.
