Obverse lettering ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA
(Translation: Elizabeth II Queen by the grace of God)
Reverse description The reverse features a three-dimensional lampworked borosilicate glass monarch caterpillar (Danaus plexippus) with distinctive black, yellow, and white banded striping, affixed to a broad green swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) leaf rendered in vivid colour. Behind the leaf, a flourishing swamp milkweed plant rises with clusters of bright pink blossoms filling the upper field. The denomination 20 DOLLARS and date 2018 are engraved in the upper legend, with CANADA inscribed along the lower rim, and the engraver's initials MG appear in the right field. The naturalistic composition is executed in a combination of coloured printing and applied glass sculpture, giving the design exceptional three-dimensional realism.
