Obverse description The obverse features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt, depicted in right-facing profile as a mature portrait at approximately 77 years of age, bare-headed, wearing a necklace and drop earrings. The legend 'ELIZABETH II D·G·REGINA' arcs around the upper field, rendered in Latin script. The portrait is executed in a refined engraved style consistent with the standard Royal Canadian Mint coinage effigy introduced in 2003.

Additional information

Part of the RCM's long-running "Venetian Glass" series, this issue incorporates a small hand-poured glass element produced by artisans in Murano, Italy — one of the few Canadian legal tender coins to include a component manufactured entirely outside Canada. The glass insert is bonded into the coin's surface rather than set in a bezel, a process the mint developed over several years of production trials before the series launched.
