Part of the Royal Canadian Mint's ongoing transportation series, this issue commemorates the steam locomotives that defined Canadian nation-building in the late nineteenth century — particularly the Canadian Pacific Railway's transcontinental line, completed in 1885, which was a direct condition of British Columbia's entry into Confederation. The .9999 fine silver specification, rather than the more common .999, reflects the Mint's move toward ultra-high purity strikes in their collector programs during this period.
