Obverse description Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley whose initials IRB appear beneath the truncation. The denomination '20 DOLLARS' is inscribed to the left of the effigy, with the series inscription 'FAIRY TALES' arching across the upper field. The legend 'ELIZABETH II COOK ISLANDS' curves along the lower periphery. The field is populated with an elaborate border of silhouetted fairy-tale characters and motifs — including a fairy, a castle, dragons, horses, and various storybook figures — rendered in high relief against the antiqued silver ground.

Reverse description Deeply struck high-relief antiqued silver scene depicting the pivotal encounter from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel. In the foreground, the two children stand before a menacing, hunched witch who extends her hand toward them in a gesture of false welcome; Hansel holds a small decorative doll while Gretel clutches a colorfully enamelled lollipop rendered in vivid red, blue, and yellow. Behind the figures, a cobblestone path leads to the iconic gingerbread house, its snow-laden roof and red-and-white candy-cane columns picked out in polychrome enamel coloring. Bare, gnarled trees flank the composition to either side, enhancing the sinister woodland atmosphere. The date '2022' is incused in the lower right field.
