Additional information

Part of a sprawling Cook Islands conservation series issued through the early 1990s, these coins were produced under license arrangements that made Cook Islands one of the most prolific issuers of commemorative silver in the Pacific — despite having virtually no domestic coin market to speak of. The Galápagos issue specifically coincided with heightened international pressure on Ecuador over illegal fishing within the archipelago's protected waters.
