The de Havilland DH.60 Gypsy Moth holds a particular place in Canadian aviation history not for any military role, but for what it enabled civilians to do. In 1928, the Royal Canadian Air Force acquired several Moths for training, but the type's real influence came through private pilots and bush operators who used them to open remote terrain that no wheeled transport could reach. The aircraft's forgiving handling made it the machine on which a generation of Canadian pilots first flew.
This is the third coin in the RCM's Aviation series, which ran through the 1990s pairing .925 silver with transport milestones specific to Canadian history.
