Belize has issued $20 notes continuously through the Central Bank since its establishment in 1982, always through De La Rue and always on the same basic format — a deliberate policy of visual continuity that distinguishes Belizean currency from many of its Central American neighbors, which underwent wholesale redesigns after political transitions. The 2012 series introduced updated security features without disturbing the established design lineage.

The see-through register on this denomination aligns a split motif across both faces when held to light — a De La Rue specialty more commonly deployed on higher-value notes, its presence here reflecting the $20's practical importance as the workhorse denomination in everyday Belizean commerce.
