The Avro Anson entered RCAF service in 1940 as the backbone of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, the massive Allied program that trained over 130,000 aircrew in Canada during the Second World War. More pilots, navigators, and wireless operators learned their trade aboard Ansons than any other aircraft type in the BCATP — the type logged an extraordinary number of training hours at dozens of airfields scattered across the prairies and Maritime provinces.
This coin is the eleventh issue in the Royal Canadian Mint's Aviation series, which ran from 1990 to 1999 across twenty subjects.
